National Weather Forecast: The Gulf Coast is exposed to heavy rain and the risk of flooding


Heavy rain will be the Gulf Coast’s biggest story this week, with major concerns over flooding across Texas to Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Some stronger thunderstorms could also appear in Texas by Thursday with lightning, strong winds, hail and the occasional tornado.

In the late season, snow falls over the northern Rockies, while windy conditions, low humidity and warm air on Friday led to red flag warnings and a critical fire hazard in the Great Basin and the Southwest.

A warm-up phase is forecast for cities east of the Mississippi Valley.
