Ford’s little pickup has a big surprise.
A commercial for the upcoming Maverick compact pickup teases that it will be available with a hybrid drive.
The new model will be fully revealed on June 8th through a social media campaign with actress Gabrielle Union appearing in the 23-second clip that opens the door to a garage to reveal the rear of the pickup.
On the tailgate under the name Maverick there is a small badge that clearly says “Hybrid”.
The Maverick is expected to share its basic foundations with the Ford Escape SUV, which is offered with a 200-horsepower hybrid powertrain with a combined output of 41 mpg.
A Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid made its debut for 2021 with a feature that allows it to be used as a generator to power electrical devices on site.
The Maverick will join the Ford truck range under the Ranger and will compete against the upcoming Hyundai Santa Cruz, which won’t initially be available as a hybrid but will be electrified in future model years, according to the automaker.
