After a 14-year hiatus, Garth Brooks was “scared to death” before his musical return: “Country is the best”


Garth Brooks might have made his musical comeback after a 14-year hiatus, but that doesn’t mean the country singer wasn’t nervous.

At least that’s what he said to Gayle King in an interview with CBS This Morning on Friday.

According to Brooks, he was “scared to death” when he decided to return to music. But to his surprise, he found that “the people were so cute”.

In his own words: “Country is the best place to be. For one thing, you have the most loyal audience there is and they will be waiting for you.”

Brooks, 59, reportedly took a break from the music scene to raise his three daughters: Taylor Mayne Pearl, 28; August Anna, 27; and Allie Colleen, 24.

The country icon has won more than 90 awards for his songs, including “If Tomorrow Never Comes”, “The Dance” and “Friends in Low Places”.

Since its debut in 1989, Brooks has sold more than 157 million copies of its 16 studio albums, two live albums, and 51 singles, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. Its work has also earned dozens of gold, diamond, and platinum plate association certifications.

Brooks’ latest album was released in November 2020 and is titled “Fun”. The 14-track album reached No. 7 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart in December.

As a recurring best-selling artist, Brooks is sold out at six of the seven concerts he has planned for the summer so far.

Speaking of his surprise at being so easily resumed by country music fans, Brooks told CBS that he wasn’t sure where he left off.

“The country music audience gave you everything. Now you just ask her, ‘I’m going home and raising my babies,’ ”he told King. “The big surprise was that I never thought about letting you in again. Because if you don’t know why they’re showing up, you don’t know if they’re going to show up again. “
