A ten-year-old boy was killed and a man injured in a shooting in a house in Queens on Saturday night, New York police said.
The shooting was reported after 9:30 p.m. at a house on Beach 45th Street in the Edgemere neighborhood of the Rockaways, a police spokesman said. The boy was taken to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a shot in the stomach.
The 29-year-old man was shot in the shoulder. Further details about the incident were initially not known.
Police said another child, a 12-year-old girl and a man were shot dead in an unrelated incident in the Bronx on Saturday. The girl visiting from New Jersey was hit in the ankle and shot in the chest just before 6 p.m. outside a building near East 171st Street and Wythe Place.
Both were treated in the BronxCare Health System, the police spokesman said. Information about their conditions was not immediately available.
The shootings came amid a surge in gun violence in New York and other major cities. By the end of May, there were 173 homicides in the city in 2021, an increase of 18 percent over the first five months of 2020, according to police statistics.
