Country Music Television urges viewers to “wear orange” for the gun control campaign, which annoys the core audience

Country Music Television – along with other broadcasters – urged many to “wear orange” at the weekend as part of a coordinated stance against gun violence.

“We’re wearing (practically) orange today to support National Gun Violence Awareness Day and to raise awareness of the more than 100 lives lost to gun violence every day,” said the ViacomCBS-owned company tweeted Friday before the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday.

The campaign, citing data from reports of fatal injuries from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for 2015-2019, claimed that “more than 100 Americans are killed with firearms every day.” Wear Orange is part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s gun control campaign supported by Michael Bloomberg. The attempt received heavy criticism from many on social media.

“This is anti-weapon propaganda disguised as a virtue,” one critic of the campaign tweeted, added, “CMT has gone down the drain with every other company selling to the woke extremists.”

Another angry that by clicking “Submit” on the “Wear Orange” tweet the network “has just lost 75% of your viewers”.

“For my part, I will never watch a station that is campaigning against the 2nd amendment, which CMT has just done,” wrote the social media user. “You’d think they know their audience [sic], but you blame woken up idiots and you get stupid. “

In April President Biden announced a series of executive measures and legislative proposals on gun control, declaring gun violence “a public health crisis” while defending against criticism that his administration’s actions violate the rights of the second amendment.

“Nothing I’m going to recommend affects the second amendment in any way,” Biden said at the time. “These are false arguments that suggest that these are Second Amendment rights that are at stake from what we are talking about.”
