Democrats risk losing the Senate majority in attacks on Manchin: Hume

Progressives and Democrats who attack Sen. Joe Manchin, DW.Va., run the risk of completely ousting him from their party and turning the majority towards Republicans, according to chief political analyst at Fox News Brit Hume.

“I don’t know what these Democrats think when they attack him like that,” said Hume on Monday to the “Special Report” presenter Bret Baier. “There is a possibility that if you follow it, you could lose this seat.

ADVANCED PROTECT MANCHIN AFTER HE REJECTED ELECTION LAW AND ENDED FILIBUSTER

The West Virginia Democrat faced the ire of members of his own party on Monday when he wrote a comment swearing to oppose the Democrats’ departure elections Bill and sided with his Republican colleagues to keep the legislative filibuster in the Senate.

Manchin’s opposition to the For the People Act provoked outrage from progressive Democrats who hoped to pass a number of progressive laws, including the electoral law, without the support of Republicans in the Senate. representative Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., Rep. Jamaal Bowman, DN.Y. and Rep. Mondaire Jones, DN.Y. criticized Manchin publicly on Twitter.

But, as Hume noted, Machin’s logic “makes political sense” if he intends to retain the Senate majority.

“He’s from a state that’s among the reddest in the country – Joe Biden saw Donald Trump get about 70% of the vote in West Virginia, so Manchin has to think about surviving in a red state,” said Hume . “So what he’s doing makes political sense to him and should make political sense to the Democrats because if they lost that seat, they’d lose that majority.”

Hume stated that if the Democrats lost Manchin’s tie, he would still remain in the Senate majority but the Republicans would take control of the chamber.

“He wouldn’t lose anything, it seems to me, unless it distracted the Democrats from him,” said Hume.
