None of the top House Representatives – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) And Clyburn – have made plans to leave their positions despite Pelosi pledging two terms as spokesperson in 2018.
While several Democrats have said they see a scenario in which all three remain in power, others have predicted that if the party loses in 2022, an automatic change of power could be in sight.
Clyburn has also said that if she chooses to hold on to the gavel, he would be supportive of Pelosi, though his answer was a bit vague when asked if he would be competing for the top job.
“Good God, I was born and raised in South Carolina, you learned I’ve been thinking all my life,” Clyburn said in an interview with CNN. “I’m still thinking.”
