EXCLUSIVE: Josh Duggar’s multiple spotlight scandals, most recently his child pornography charges, have put an end to his true passion in life, says a source close to the TV family.
A friend of Duggar’s family, who spoke to Fox News about anonymity this week, weighed on the federal charges against the 33-year-old former TLC star. While his family surrounds him with “support” while he awaits trial in November, the insider said his previous dream of pursuing a political career was over.
“Politics is his love. It was his love and passion forever,” said the family friend. “It wasn’t the auto business.”
The family friend, who has had multiple family interactions since their first show “19 Kids and Counting,” said Duggar spoke about his dreams of becoming a “political advisor or strategist.”

The disgraced former reality star was Charged with federal charges in Arkansas in April and has since pleaded not guilty to one child pornography receipt and possession of child pornography. But his latest arrest isn’t his first public misstep.
In 2015, TLC pulled the hit family reality show “19 Kids and Counting” after it was revealed that it molested four of its sisters and a babysitter in the early 2000s. Duggar’s parents said he confessed to the pats at the time and apologized.
Later that year, it was reported that Duggar had an account with Ashley Madison, a website designed to facilitate extramarital affairs.
Before the abuse scandal, Duggar got a taste of a position in politics in 2013 when he moved to Washington DC with his wife Anna and their then three children to take on the role of executive director of Family Research Council Action, the lobbying arm of the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian organization.

Duggar resigned from his position in May 2015 following his harassment and porn addiction scandals.
“Last night we learned about allegations against Josh Duggar from online reports and then read his confession today. We are saddened by Josh’s behavior and the devastating effects of his pornography addiction and marital infidelity,” said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council in an explanation at the time. “Our hearts hurt his family and all those affected by Josh’s actions. His fraudulent behavior harms his family, friends, former employees and the cause he has publicly advocated.”
Duggar’s friend told Fox News that Duggar was “making some decisions that were atypical” at the time.
His recent federal allegations, if proven true, appear to be “off character,” added the buddy.
After his resignation, Duggar returned to Arkansas, where he sold used cars on his property. The source revealed that Duggar never found his job in the auto industry as fulfilling as he did in politics.

“The cars were fine. But politics was his passion. His father was in the Arkansas House of Representatives. Josh loved working on campaigns and being on that side of everything,” the source said.
Duggar’s friend recalled his “very conservative” views. However, his dream has certainly “come to a standstill,” urged the insider.

“He was even involved here in local politics. I know he loved it. That’s probably not part of his life at the moment either, but I’m sure he still has a passion, ”he said.
