McCarthy is focused on his 5 GOP picks for the January 6th selection committee

Other members include Rep. Rodney Davis of Illinois, a moderate who serves as the Republican chief on the House of Representatives Administrative Committee; Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, senior Republican on the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee; Rep. Kelly Armstrong (RN.D.), a professional attorney who served on the Justice Committee of the House of Representatives during Trump’s first impeachment trial; and freshman Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, a former sheriff who helped the Capitol Police fight back rioters who tried to break into the house during the siege.

McCarthy’s appointment comes days prior to the selected panel’s first hearing with witnesses from the US Capitol Police Department and the Metropolitan Police Department. Among the democratically appointed members of the committee is MP Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), A McCarthy critic who was ousted from the leadership of House GOP for her conviction of Trump.

The investigation is likely to be highly controversial as both parties are to blame for the Jan. 6 security flaws that resulted in numerous law enforcement violations when Trump supporters rioted to prevent Congress from certifying President Joe Biden’s loss . Three of McCarthy’s five expected selections for the Republican side of the elected panel voted for the challenges in certifying Biden’s victory.

Jordan declined to say Monday if McCarthy asked him to sit on the panel. When asked if he was ready, the Ohio Republican said the decision was “entirely up to Kevin,” but he would join the list if asked.
