The NYPD posted a video of the suspect on Sunday. In the video he was seen in a gray T-shirt, black pants and a white bandana as he left the turnstile at the train station.

The incident happened when the mother and son were walking up the stairs of Canal Street Q station at around 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, authorities said. The alleged thief attempted to grab the son’s backpack, which caused the couple to tumble backwards.

A witness told the New York Post that the son “screamed for help” and the mother’s head was bleeding profusely.
